Mr. Paul Woods

Percussion Instructor

Autobiography of Paul Woods in Percussion

Percussion has always been a gift of mines. It was something that I was never taught how to do. As early as the age of 4 years old I began playing drum set at Eternal Life Church of Christ where I was born & raised in Columbus, Ohio.  Although I played many sports, in middle school is when I started to become educated in jazz band & the drum kit as well. I than continued my percussion journey in high school with concert band, marching band, jazz band & in orchestra playing the upright bass. As I was promoted to the 11th grade, marching band began to become more & more natural for me. Within the 2nd year of marching band I was the head section leader while playing snare drum. At the time while marching band was a huge influence on my life I was also involved with wrestling & track in which I was All-City & All-State.

After graduating high school I then decided to further my education at 2 very well accredited institutions (Kentucky State & Jackson State University) where I majored in Physical Education also while being a Section Leader, Band President & Personal Training Leader. Meanwhile, after college I then relocated back to Ohio where I was a Drum line instructor for several different schools & community centers ranging from k-12. It was there when I began to give private lessons & a motivational speaker towards youth…encouraging them to be fervent in faith in their craft. I have also performed at the Cleveland Cavilers & New York Knicks while touring in more than 30+ states including Japan with Drumline Live playing marching percussion/Drum Set, dancing & acting for 2 years. Percussion & coaching sports is a great passion of mines & I find it such a blessing!

I believe anything is possible as long as you have a willing mind & you believe! Education is very important as well…I stress this to all of my students!
